  1. Good bang for the buck upgrade 4 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Jan 2018

I decided on the Ford Performance calibration kit, rather than an aftermarket kit because it retains the warranty, as long as it is installed by an ASE certified mechanic, and Ford has done tests on the reliability and longevity of the EcoBoost motor with this calibration installed.
The kit installs very easily. If not for my desire to keep my warranty intact, I could have done it myself in an hour or two.
I had read that it takes a while for the computer to learn the new calibration, and have seen reviews that say the car is actually slower at first, so I wasn't expecting much when I picked up the car from the shop. When I first started the car, I was a little surprised that the giant GT350 cold air intake doesn't add much sound to the car. I was expecting it to be louder than it is. However, I was surprised that I could feel a little difference in the power. Right away, the car felt more responsive.
After driving with the calibration kit for a few months, I can say it does make a difference. If you are expecting to have GT type performance, you will be disappointed, but the car is much more fun to drive. It no longer has the huge power drop off at the top of the RPM range. Where before the power just disappeared, it now continues on, with a gradual drop off. The power also comes on sooner, and is more even throughout the power band. The engine is still smooth in daily driving, and I haven't noticed any decrease in fuel mileage. This is how the EcoBoost Mustang should have come from the factory!
